Fall Colors

Niagara Falls Sunset

When I planned out my trip, I knew the drive from Vermont to Pennsylvania was going to be too much for one day. I looked for a great stop along the way for a night and the obvious option was Niagara Falls. Making my way there meant driving through many regions of New York, including the Ticonderoga/Saratoga, Mohawk Valley, Finger Lakes, Central NY and Western NY areas.

The drive had some great views, but my sights were set on the destination. I got to my Airbnb around 6pm and had enough time to unload my things and head out. My host had offered a bike to make the short ride down to the falls. I hadn’t really been on a bike in a while, but you know what they say. So off I was cruising down to the falls.

I got to the American Falls in time to catch the sunset. I made my way around the different views of the American Falls, onto Goat Island, and over to view the Canadian Falls from Terrapin Point. I had been here with my family back in 2012 during the day. My host had said the falls were great at night too, and boy was she right. The light shows began as the night grew darker. It was amazing to see the falls lit up in all sorts of colors.

I found it amusing that all along my trip I kept hearing that i was a few weeks early to see the fall colors and leaves changing. But here I was staring at the fall colors in all their beauty. Reds, greens, yellows, and some blues. I sat there at each spot watching the colors for a few hours. It was amazing!

I hopped back on the bike and found a restaurant on the way back for a late dinner. Then I settled in for the night and headed out the next day to my next stop… Pittsburgh, PA!
